The interest rates on 30-year mortgages were down a bit this week, maintaining a level below 6 percent. The rates on other types of mortgages however, rose slightly.

The mortgage company Freddie Mac reports that 30-year fixed-rate mortgages were at an average of 5.85 percent for the week. This average is down a bit from the previous week where it was at 5.87 percent. This marks the second consecutive week where rates have stayed below 6 percent.

The average rates on 30-year mortgages fell below the 6 percent threshold the second week of January and maintained this drop for six straight weeks. Read More
